About the Collective

Our Communities

We strive to bring African superfoods to as many people as possible, inspiring moments of self-care and wellbeing whilst our community of small-scale growers thrive.

Partnering with over 400 farmers in North-East Nigeria, we procure, process, and facilitate the sale of superfoods, from the farm to your doorstep.

In doing so, we can ensure the bulk of the profit made from each sale lies with the source community.

Our History

Our journey began with a visit to a major grain depot in Lagos (Mile 12). Rumours of a new “commodity” sparking the interest of exporters were making their rounds across the market, yet there was little information about the communities that grew this new “super-grain” or what exactly made it so special.

August 2019

With the help of social media, our founder, Cobi-Jane Akinrele found a small community in North-East Nigeria who were said to have cultivated fonio for centuries. Within weeks, Cobi-Jane and a curious fonio farmer with strong ties to the region garnered the interest of over 100 small-scale fonio farmers all eager to access new markets.

October - November 2019

We made our first order for wholesale fonio. By now, our network of partner-farmers grew exponentially and now included moringa farmers who live in the communities we serve.

March 2020

We received our first investment and created our first tea blend in collab with Thai Thai, Lagos.
